How Silent Disco Technology Works

A silent disco looks simple: a crowd, a DJ, and everyone wearing headsets. Behind it is a small set of parts that work together.

The three parts

  • Audio source: a DJ mixer, laptop or phone.
  • Transmitter: sends the audio wirelessly over RF/UHF radio.
  • Headsets: receive the signal and play it to each guest.

Channels

Most systems offer more than one channel. Nokomoto kits use 2 to 3 channels, shown by coloured lights, so guests can switch between DJs or music styles.

Range

Range depends on the transmitter. Nokomoto transmitters are available for different distances, up to 500 metres in open space. Walls, crowds and buildings reduce range, so pick a model with some headroom.

What to look for

  • Clear sound without static.
  • Comfortable, sturdy headsets that survive many events.
  • BIS and WPC certification for use in India.
  • A transmitter that matches the size of your venue.
